For once, the Bundesliga is once again exciting. Not FC Bayern, but Borussia Dortmund is at the top of the table. After six championships in a row, the league leader is equal on points with Hertha BSC only in the chasing role. In contrast, there is constant tension in eSport. Because the DFL will have first and second league teams playing a champion on the console in the future. Whoever wins the title is completely open.
A comparable competition does not exist so far. DFL boss Christian Seifert (49) comments on the pioneering role: “Not only among young people does eSport have a high popularity, it is almost part of everyday culture. Against this background, it’s the right decision for clubs and DFL to further expand their commitment in this area.”
SPORT BILD answers the most important questions about the new competition!
How many clubs participate in the eBundesliga?
The “Club Championship”, as the competition will be called, is attended by first and second league clubs. Currently, eleven of the 36 professional clubs have at least one FIFA gambler under contract. That’s it: Schalke, Leverkusen, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Hertha, Bremen, Augsburg, Wolfsburg, Nuremberg, Bochum and Cologne. SPORT BILD knows: Gladbach, Hoffenheim, Frankfurt, Mainz and HSV will also enter virtual football.
RB Leipzig will sign another professional in addition to FIFA star Cihan Yasarlar (25). According to SPORT BILD information, FC Bayern will not participate in the “eBundesliga”. President Uli Hoeneß (66) has made it clear internally that there will be no entry into eSport under his leadership. In the public eye, he spoke of “total nonsense” in the past.

Will the “TAG Heuer virtuelle Bundesliga” and the eBundesliga be merged?
In part. What is certain is that the six-year-old VBL, in which 150,000 amateur FIFA players took part last year, will be continued. However, the professional gamblers no longer have to struggle their way through the many qualification rounds, but can play in their own league. The best FIFA pros of the “Club Championship” will receive a wildcard for the knockout phase of the “TAG Heuer virtual Bundesliga” so that they can continue to secure both championship titles.
