the iPod amp

ion-block-rockerthumbnail.gifMaybe it’s stretching it a bit, calling a 44 x 47 x 27cm unit which weighs 17.5kg “portable”. This speaker box, which is almost half a metre wide and high has a handle and wheels though, as we are used to seeing in trolleys. It is a box for event entertainers, street musicians and people with a sense of mission. There is one thing which distinguishes this PA amplifier from others – it has a connector for iPods.

It is yet to be seen whether AAC files, which have been optimised for listening to through in-ear earphones, will still sound good on this bass monster. Microphones or other instruments can also be connected, as well as iPods. Other CD or MP3 players can also be connected.

The amp has a 2-way speaker, which should give 22W sound over 40m. The batteries should last for 12 hours. A universal adapter allows all types of iPods to be connected.
