Walmart ILO 1GB $100 mp3 player

walmart-ilo-1gb.jpgA Cheap, $100 dollar mp3 player is being offered by Walmart, the ILO.

Manufactured by GoVideo, the flash-based ILO MP3 player is compatible with playsforsure DRM WMAs, including those downloaded from Walmart’s own music service. If you opt to buy online, you get your choice of five colours: white, pink, blue, red, and orange.

The sporty design is clearly reminiscent of Rio, and the price point certainly makes it an enticing buy. It’s even capable of voice recording and FM radio, along with USB 2.0 connectivity.

This is a prime example of poor product design. The operating switches are soldered directly to the circuit board with no support. When using the player, the simple act of pushing a button will break the switch off of the circuit board. In short this product is designed to fail. The moron who designed it should be fired.

Well this thing worked for about 2 weeks then the thing just shut off, never to come on again. I would like to figure out how to contact Ilo and get something back from this. Please E-mail me at gib176@yahoo.com if you have any information on how I can do this.

My wife got this player for Christmas and absolutely loves it. She's had no problems with it whatsoever, even after dropping it several times on the floor. Maybe she got lucky with her purchase, but hers has been quite sturdy and running strong everyday now for basically 3 weeks.

I don't think you can really compare this to an Ipod... they're really quite different in purpose and function. The Ipod is heavier, more sturdy, more expensive, and in the end... is better than the ILO, but that's not saying the ILO is a piece of junk. It's lightweight, cheap, simple and designed for folks who already have mp3/wma collections or wish to subscribe to the Walmart service. Myself, I have a huge collection of mp3's, so this was the simplest thing out there for my wife to use, and she greatly enjoys it.

To someone looking to buy one of these; I see some folks have had problems with this player, but not everyone has. For us it has worked very well.

I'm hoping my ilo will start working again after just ONE WEEK! None of the keys work and I have no sound except when connected to my PC. Hope I can take it back to WalMart and get my money back!

My ILO 1GB player works ok. The volume-down
button needs to be pressed hard to work, though.
The other glitch is that when I play "all songs"
in an album or category, it repeats the 1st song,
skips the 2nd and goes on to the 3rd. Also,
if I want to delete songs, I have to delete,
turn off the unit, and then turn it back on,
otherwise, the song is still in memory.
Yes, some minor software glitches. But, if
all you need is a straightforward player, it
works ok.

I purchased a 1GB SD card from Costco for mine. When both the internal memory and the card are full, the player cannot index and access about half or more of the files on the card. They are there, but the unit is not capable of accessing all of it for some reason. I wouldn't recommend one if you hope to add a 1GB SD card for additional capacity. The instruction manual says it will support a 1 GB card, but it won't. I exchanged mine, figuring I had a bad unit, but the new one does exactly the same thing.

This thing's a great player...if you baby it. the buttons are so fragile i'm afraid to push hard and almost frightned if i get close to dropping it. Reason...I dropped it before and it landed directly on the power button rendering it useless. I traded it in for another under warranty. it worked great for me for the first month then the thing would stop playing and if it did play only one song and the last song I uploaded on it. it's not too bad it played quite well when it did but i just wish it didnt have so many problems. "heh" it's kinda like a Hyundai! cheap, comes with all the frills, looks good but still CHEAP! I'm keeping it for now but later on im investing in an iPod.

It stopped working after 2 months. I sent to manufacturer (Siren Inc). It has been 5 months. Every time I call they said it is not available in stock wait for 2 more weeks. Can any one suggest me what to do in this situation?

Thanks

We purchased this for our daughter at Christmas time. volume buttons broke after 3 months. Went back to wal mart to exchange it. After 4 months the volume buttons broke AGAIN. contacted Siren and they said because the 90 days was up from the first purchase they would NOT help. I think a product should work longer than 3-4 months. Don't you??? I see others have this same problem. Hmmm?

I've been using mine for several months now with no problems. It's been dropped, goes jogging, tossed in my purse into the jumble of stuff that lives in there, carried around in my laptop bag (and who knows how often it's been laid on by the laptop)... the buttons still work fine, the player plays fine - I have absolutely NO issues with it at all. I've used it with and without an SD card, too. Consider the fact that most people don't write a review of GOOD products - they only take the time to complain. I'm sure there are PLENTY of others out there who haven't had any problems.
