Evergreen’s 1GB MP3 Player

everg2.jpgThe EG-MD1000 is the latest addition to Evergreen’s EG-MD series, of which there is already a 512MB version and a 256MB version. The price of the 512MB version is ¥8,980 while the 256MB version is ¥6,480. The color of the 1GB version is silver.

Evergreen (Japan) will began offering its 1GB audio player, the EG-MD1000, on June 17th at significantly lower cost than the iPod Shuffle in Japan. The average cost of the iPod Shuffle in Japan is around ¥16, 980 while Evergreen is offering a comparable portable MP3 player at just ¥12,800.

The resolution of the built-in LCD display is 128x32 pixels. The EG-MD1000 can only playback MP3 files, and the bit rate for MP3 file playback is 16~320 kbps. It also supports ID3 tag display in Japanese. Internal menus can be displayed in up to 13 different languages.

The USB connecter is built-in to the device, much like a portable thumb drive, and is protected by a cap. The player of course connects to a computer via USB and the player supports the USB 1.1 standard. Since the player behaves as a USB storage class device when connected, there’s no need for special software to transfer music, one need only drag & drop MP3 files directly to the player. The EG-MD1000 is compatible with Microsoft Windows ME/2000/XP.

Further still, the EG-MD1000 has a built-in mic, making it capable of voice recording. Using the built-in 1GB of memory, the EG-MD1000 can record up to 280 hours. There’s also a built-in equalizer, which allows you to customize playback of your music. The player is powered by a single AAA battery, with a maximum playback time of 10 hours. The outer dimensions of the player are 30x94x19mm. The weight is 30 grams, battery included.
